Business Finland, the public innovation agency of Finland, has officially approved a €28.3 million continuation grant for ICEYE, a global leader in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology. This grant serves as the final tranche of a previously announced major research and development investment decision.

The funding arrives as European nations increasingly prioritize investments in sovereign defense, maritime security, and national resilience, driving an unprecedented demand for persistent, space-based intelligence.
Advancing Sovereign Intelligence and AI
The newly secured capital is designated to accelerate major advancements within ICEYE’s core technology portfolio. The company’s research and development efforts will focus heavily on enhancing its next-generation synthetic aperture radar sensing capabilities, optimizing data collection methods, and improving artificial intelligence-driven analysis.
Additionally, ICEYE is actively collaborating with European command-and-control system integrators to advance multi-source data fusion. This ensures that allied nations and governments have continuous, reliable access to high-fidelity commercial SAR imagery, which provides critical situational awareness day or night, regardless of weather conditions.
Rapid Production and Scaling
To meet the escalating global demand for its services, ICEYE is scaling its operations at an unprecedented pace. Since its inception in 2018, the company has successfully launched 72 satellites. Recently, it achieved a major manufacturing milestone by reaching a production rate of one satellite per week.
Looking forward, the company has set ambitious growth targets. ICEYE plans to launch 25 satellites in 2026 and more than 50 in 2027. By 2028, the manufacturer aims to reach an annual production capacity of 100 satellites. Sustaining this rapid trajectory requires continuous investment in expanded production facilities, highly skilled engineering talent, and ongoing technology development.
Financial Flexibility and Future Outlook
In addition to the Business Finland grant, ICEYE announced that it has separately secured a €300 million revolving credit facility. This substantial financial backing further strengthens the company’s operational flexibility as it scales its global manufacturing footprint and deploys sovereign space-based intelligence architectures for its international clients.
Pekka Laurila, Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at ICEYE, noted that Business Finland’s ongoing support reflects the company’s strong execution and technical progress. He emphasized that the partnership is vital for strengthening domestic expertise and accelerating the deployment of technologies that ultimately enhance national resilience and sovereign capabilities on a global scale.
