[Satnews] ETL Systems, a global designer and manufacturer of RF equipment for satellite communications, has launched its latest matrix—the 64 x 64 L-band Hurricane—at SATELLITE 2016.
The new 64 x 64 Hurricane Matrix is the smallest matrix of its kind in the market with inclusive LNB powering in a 4U compact, modular chassis. Hurricane’s flexible design offers optimized performance and a range of individual options to suit a particular set of RF needs, such as fiber inputs, variable gain and variable slope. The 850-2450 MHz operating frequency allows for Ka-band and HTS applications, while minimizing power consumption as only active routes are powered.
“The SATELLITE show is one of the biggest events of the year in the industry and it is certainly a highlight on our calendar,” said Susan Saadat, ETL’s Vice President North America Sales and Operations. “That is why we chose it to launch our latest, most flexible, compact and versatile matrix to date.”
The Hurricane is designed so the user is able to hot-swap all active internal components including RF modules, dual redundant power supplies, dual redundant CPUs and fan trays. The matrix is also designed so that it does not need to be re-booted in the event of any failure. RF signals are fully controlled and monitored, with RF detection on each input and output path.
“With high-linearity signal handling—including improved 1dB gain compression point—and market leading RF performance, the Hurricane Matrix builds on close to 30 years of ETL experience in this industry,” said Ms. Saadat. “Due to the matrix’s ability to power only active routes, it can offer a 25 percent reduction in power consumption in comparison to traditional RF matrix routers.”
On the surface, the new Hurricane Matrix offers a sleek design with upgraded touchscreen display, more intuitive human-machine interaction (HMI) and an improved web browser system.
“The Hurricane matrix has been designed specifically to handle different satellite feeds that each require individual RF adjustment. To achieve this the Hurricane offers customizable input and output modules for up to 64 feeds in a single chassis”, said Gavin Lewis, Engineering Manager.
ETL Systems can be located at Stand 335 at SATELLITE 2016 from 7-10 March 2016. The event takes place at the Gaylord National Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland.
