The company announced a successful $25 million seed funding round led by defense-focused firm Silent Ventures, establishing Traysar as the world’s first dedicated subterra defense technology company.
The U.S. Army’s doctrinal manual for subterranean operations estimates that there are more than 10,000 known, deeply buried military facilities hidden underground worldwide. While modern defense contractors spend hundreds of billions of dollars looking upward to develop missiles, satellite networks, and drone countermeasures, international adversaries have spent decades digging downward. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Traysar is looking to transform the earth’s crust into an active three-dimensional warfighting space. The startup was co-founded by Yadin Soffer, Asher Katz, and Gilad Adin, who have assembled a specialized engineering team featuring veteran builders from SpaceX and Elon Musk’s tunnel-boring firm, The Boring Company.
Traysar’s initial product pipeline focuses on two distinct, highly autonomous hardware platforms designed to navigate and exploit the subsurface domain. The first is an excavator-class autonomous tunnel breaching and tactical exploration vehicle engineered to rapidly penetrate, dynamically map, and clear hostile underground networks without risking the lives of human soldiers. The second platform is a high-speed, rapid-burrowing drone system built to create precision subterranean access points and autonomously deliver critical defensive payloads deep beneath the surface.
The tactical capability gap has widened as peer adversaries and non-state actors alike deeply integrate tunneling into their defense doctrines. Western allied forces continue to face severe operational hurdles when attempting to reliably neutralize deeply fortified bunkers, such as Iran’s heavily reinforced nuclear enrichment sites. Concurrently, regional proxy forces have built extensive underground networks to bypass border security frameworks, establishing entirely hidden logistics lines right under monitored boundaries.
Reshaping 21st Century Supremacy
The investment arrives as a wave of private venture capital increasingly flows into dual-use tech startups looking to challenge legacy defense primes. Beyond offensive tunnel-clearing applications, Traysar intends to utilize its military boring breakthroughs to help the United States and its regional allies harden their own critical domestic infrastructure. By moving command hubs, sensitive manufacturing lines, and supply stockpiles deep underground, defense planners can preserve logistical continuity and protect structural assets even under sustained precision missile or drone bombardments. With its seed capital secured, the company plans to rapidly scale its engineering personnel and accelerate physical field testing of its autonomous burrowing platforms on dedicated testing ranges later this year.
