[SatNews] In addition to standard equipment business, RF-Design generates roughly 30 percent of their annual volume with custommade solutions.
RF-Design is a leading manufacturer of high quality RF-distribution solutions for the international satellite, broadcast and broadband industry. With its range of products (splitters/combiners, switches, switch/routing matrices, line-amplifiers, RF-over-Fiber solutions, spectrum-analyzers…) the medium-sized company from Bensheim/Germany addresses a niche within this technologically highly complex market.
As the companies name implies, RF-Design specializes in bespoke products while they also have the flexibility to design and to manufacture tailor-made solutions for individual customer requirements. All RF-Design products are especially developed for RF-distribution architectures in Teleports, Satellite Earth-Stations as well as Broadcasting and Broadband infrastructures. The team at RF-Design serves national and international industry leaders such as EUTELSAT, SES, EUTELSAT, ViaSat, ARABSAT, Media-Broadcast…and also cooperates with numerous system integrators globally.

The future belongs to the Matrix. One of RF-Design´s product series is the “FlexLink K3” L-Band Switch/Routing Matrix”. This system was launched last year and represents an efficient and powerful switch/routing matrix for flexible switching/routing of L-Band signals. The modular design of the “FlexLink K3” allows various switching configurations, such as 64:64 and is easily expandable to up to 256:256 (increments of 8), while any input can be routed to any or all outputs.
In recent years in particular, the demand for such matrices has grown and typically are being used in Earth-Stations, Teleports but also Cable/IPTV Headends. RF-Design´s “FlexLink K3” enjoys strong demand they have provided more then 45 “FlexLink K3” L-Band Switch-Matrices to various clients around the globe.
In contrast to conventional RF-distribution infrastructures, a switch/routing matrix system offers maximum flexibility while the advantages are obvious: Switch/Routing matrices require less space, need less cabling, allow flexible switching of all signals, can be expanded to keep track of your grown business, offer maximum resistance to failure and are extremely energy-efficient.
RF-Design is on a growth trajectory. Scoring points with quality, reliability and flexibility…RF-Design´s sales volume and staff have more then doubled since 2010, with a further increase already achieved in 2013. Their largest sales are in Europe and the USA followed by the middle east. The company is about to broaden their international footprint and currently is on the lookout for new sales- and integration partners so that they can assert themselves in the international market.
In addition to standard equipment business, RF-Design generates roughly 30 percent of their annual volume with custommade solutions. In this sense they serve companies like SES, ViaSat, EUTELSAT. At the moment RF-Design´s R&D team is developing a smaller switch/routing matrix system, a stripped down version of its “FlexLink K3” series while this smaller system addresses less stringent requirements it still offers the same functionality, quality and performance. Many companies start with small matrices (like 16:16, 16:32…) and upgrade as they grow. The small version represents a 32:32 solutions which can be expanded incrementally. It also features a touch-screen, remotecontrol, modularity and can be fitted with coax inputs but also glass fiber inputs. It is planned to unveil the first prototype as well as other new products at IBC 2013, Hall 1/Stand F57.
