Unveiled on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Farnborough International Airshow, the UK Space Agency (UKSA) announced a £62 million ($83.3 million) funding package dedicated to advancing domestic satellite communications and sovereign orbital technologies.

Concurrently, UKSA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Space Florida to establish a joint $400,000 (£300,000) commercial innovation fund.
Program Allocation and Technical Focus
The £62 million commitment is partitioned into two targeted national technology streams designed to strengthen domestic supply chains:
- Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit (C-LEO): Receives £42 million for its third funding tranche, targeting high-density sub-tier technologies including optical inter-satellite links, active steerable antennas, onboard digital processing, and mass-market user terminals. This round expands cumulative support for the UK Space Agency’s C-LEO programme initiative to £77 million.
- National Space Innovation Programme (NSIP): Receives £20 million to support commercialization across two paths: early-stage “Kick Starter” concepts and scale-up “Major Projects”. Up to 40% of the NSIP budget is designated for Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and In-Space Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM).
- Florida International Aerospace Innovation Fund (IAIF): Co-funded equally at $200,000 each by Space Florida and UKSA, the joint fund represents the inaugural bilateral partnership under Florida’s IAIF initiative.
Leadership Rationale on Domestic Resilience
“Space is not just a scientific frontier; it is a strategic one,” stated UK Space Minister Liz Lloyd. “If we do not build national capabilities at home, we become overly dependent on others for technologies we cannot afford to be without. That is why today we are announcing £62 million for satellite communications and space innovation.”
“This agreement is a direct expression of what the Florida Model is built on — the belief that the state of Florida is not just a launch location, but a launch point for the world’s aerospace ambitions,” added Rob Long, President and CEO of Space Florida.
Solicitation and Application Schedule
Application calls for the joint UKSA-Space Florida IAIF fund are scheduled to open in Autumn 2026, with final award selections expected in early 2027. Selected NSIP commercialization projects are slated to commence performance cycles in April 2027.
