Harmonic… @ BroadcastAsia2013 With… (SatBroadcasting™—Products)

May 22, 2013

[SatNews] At BroadcastAsia2013, Harmonic continues to set the bar for achieving operational and network cost efficiencies in broadcast and multiscreen production and delivery while enhancing the viewer experience. The company will showcase solutions that enable more efficient multiformat content production, more cost-effective distribution of content over any network, and better support of high-quality video delivery regardless of the display device. Throughout the show, Harmonic will provide demonstrations of HEVC compression for OTT, as well as the company’s latest Ellipse® contribution encoder.

  • Spectrum™ ChannelPort™ Integrated Channel Playout System—Harmonic will showcase new features for its market-leading Spectrum™ media server product line. The Spectrum ChannelPort™ integrated channel playout system will feature powerful new channel-in-a-box capabilities such as dual DVEs with independent branding. The Spectrum ChannelPort platform speeds the cost-effective deployment of new SD and HD television channels by integrating branding and master control switching with clip playback on the industry’s most trusted media server platform. Fully compatible with Spectrum MediaCenter™ and MediaDeck™ 7000 servers, ChannelPort fits seamlessly into existing production and playout infrastructures, reducing complexity and cutting the time it takes to launch new services
  • Harmonic will also showcase the Ellipse® 3000 contribution encoder for the first time in Asia. The Ellipse 3000 employs MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC 4:2:0/4:2:2 8- and10-bit compression technologies to enable transmission of pristine real-time video over satellite and broadband contribution networks. By encoding the highest-possible picture quality at the front end of the broadcast chain, the Ellipse 3000 offers broad codec support and simple in-field firmware upgradability. Very low latency, in conjunction with multiformat and multicodec versatility, makes the Ellipse 3000 ideal for digital satellite newsgathering (DSNG) operations and live sports coverage—or any application in which premium image quality and high performance are primary considerations
  • Harmonic has made significant enhancements to its award-winning ProMedia™ suite of adaptive bit rate (ABR) solutions for multiscreen processing and delivery. New features include support for HEVC for VOD transcoding, increased synergy with the Harmonic MediaGrid shared storage system, and support for closed captioning, regional blackouts, and Nielsen ID3 tagging. ProMedia is the industry’s most complete multiscreen preparation solution. The latest enhancements to the product family arrive at a time when more broadcasters and service providers are looking to expand their portfolio with high-quality multiscreen services that scale and deliver amazing video. Harmonic customers now have the flexibility, scalability, and efficiency needed to accomplish this goal, drive new revenue streams, and improve the video experience
  • Leveraging Harmonic’s market-leading ACE® transcoding technology—which currently supports more than 25,000 live channels—the new ProStream® 9000 with the ACE product family optimizes broadcast television and next-generation multiscreen video applications. Dual power supplies and a high level of flexibility enable the high-performance platform to accommodate a wide range of applications that maximize efficiency, reliability, and cost savings for broadcasters, cable and satellite operators, telcos, and IPTV providers worldwide. The first offering from the 9000 series—ProStream 9100 with ACE—supports 2Gb of data throughput and up to 250 simultaneous multiplexing/scrambling services, 20 HD or 60 SD broadcast transcoding services, 20 HD/SD multiscreen inputs with 80 multiscreen output profiles, and integrated any-to-any audio transcoding with audio leveling capabilities in a single rack unit—making it the industry’s highest-density transcoding solution for mobile and web applications
  • Harmonic’s industry-leading Electra™ universal multifunction, multiformat encoding platform currently powers more than 75,000 channels worldwide. Deployed by a variety of Tier 1 broadcast, satellite, telco, and cable operators, the Electra platform supports a comprehensive range of video services including HD, SD, MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-2, picture-in-picture, switched digital video (SDV), and time-shifted TV (TSTV), and now includes logo insertion capabilities. Additionally, Electra’s new audio module supports encoding, decoding, and transcoding of up to 16 audio services. Featuring a compact, energy-efficient design, the Electra platform sets the standard for high-quality, low-bandwidth broadcast encoding
