ISTANBUL, May 7, 2026 — PROFEN, a Türkiye-based leader in satellite communication solutions, and Azercosmos, the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, have signed a landmark cooperation agreement to enhance satellite capacity utilization across the EMEA region. The signing ceremony took place during SAHA Expo 2026, the International Defence & Aerospace Exhibition held at the Istanbul Expo Centre.

The partnership combines PROFEN’s extensive ground segment infrastructure with Azercosmos’ robust orbital assets to address the surging demand for reliable, high-bandwidth connectivity in government, commercial, and mobility sectors.
Strategic Utilization of Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2
Under the terms of the agreement, PROFEN will utilize capacity from the Azerspace-1 and Azerspace-2 satellites to deliver a suite of fixed and mobile communication services. The primary focus of the rollout will include Türkiye, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). By leveraging Azercosmos’ Ku-band and C-band coverage, PROFEN aims to provide scalable network solutions for regional telecommunications operators and enterprise clients requiring secure data backhaul and broadcast services.
Integration with Ground Infrastructure in Konya and Ankara
The cooperation is anchored by PROFEN’s advanced ground station infrastructure located in Konya and Ankara. These teleports will serve as the primary gateways for the satellite capacity, ensuring seamless integration into terrestrial fiber networks. PROFEN’s expertise in multi-orbit architectures—including LEO, MEO, and GEO systems—will be utilized to develop future-ready solutions that can adapt to the evolving requirements of next-generation connectivity.
Focus on Mobility: In-Flight and Maritime Connectivity
Beyond fixed satellite services, the two organizations are actively evaluating cooperation for high-growth mobility use cases. A significant portion of the partnership is dedicated to developing In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) and maritime satellite communications. This aligns with Azercosmos’ recent efforts to expand its aviation footprint, following its April 2026 partnership with Viasat. The PROFEN-Azercosmos alliance intends to provide commercial airlines and maritime fleets with high-speed internet that remains consistent across international borders throughout the EMEA corridor.
Strengthening Regional Digital Sovereignty
The agreement marks a pivotal moment in the strengthening of the space-based ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan. By utilizing regional satellite capacity rather than relying exclusively on global mega-constellations, the partnership enhances digital sovereignty for regional stakeholders. “This cooperation allows us to deliver more flexible and reliable solutions to meet the growing internet and communication demands across the region,” stated representatives from Azercosmos. For PROFEN, the deal solidifies its position as a primary system integrator capable of providing end-to-end connectivity for land, air, and sea platforms.
