Intelsat General Communications, LLC (IGC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Intelsat, has been awarded a six-year contract with the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO).
Intelsat provides DALO with full-time, Ku-Band, satellite communication capacity and also facilitates communications between DALO’s Danish hub, which is co-located with an Intelsat teleport, and ships operating in the North Atlantic Ocean, including the Labrador Sea and the Baffin Bay.
IGC has been the prime provider to DALO in support of the Danish Navy in the North Atlantic since 2007.
The company also recently demo’d the Intelsat FlexGround service with Cubic’s GATR Antennas for the U.S. Air Force’s 628th Mission Support Group and 437th Operations Support Squadron or Combat Readiness Group (CRG) at Joint Base Charleston in South Carolina.

The CRG is looking for a global expeditionary terminal set and managed-network capability to help them respond to worldwide threats and emergencies on short notice. Intelsat’s FlexGround service proved capable of meeting their ongoing needs as well as offering an ad-hoc base communications solution, leveraging an ultra-light GATR Inflatable Satellite Antenna system to help them respond to emergency events.
Officers and enlisted personnel watched a Communications-on-the-Pause (COTP) demonstration that used GATR’s 1.2 meter antenna to transmit live data over the Intelsat network. Then, the Airmen watched a Communications-on-the-Move (COTM) demonstration using the IGC FlexGround Jeep, which is equipped with a Kymeta u7 terminal. A Silvus radio was also used to extend the FlexGround service from the Kymeta terminal to a handheld radio system. The service members were able to use their cell phones to dial through the existing cellular infrastructure, transmit a live video feed via the Intelsat teleport and connect to an Intelsat laptop over the FlexGround network — all while on the move.
