On Sunday, October 25, 2026, satellite ground communications provider ST Engineering iDirect announced a partnership with Mohammed Al Barwani Satellite Company (MBSat) to deliver the ground system foundation for satellite gateway and network operations in Oman.

Under the agreement, MBSat will deploy ST Engineering iDirect’s software-defined Intuition platform to manage connectivity and gateway infrastructure supporting commercial, enterprise, and government customers across the Middle East.
Ground Infrastructure and Sovereign Constellation Lineage
The deployment establishes the terrestrial operational segment for Oman’s first private communications satellite project. The gateway architecture will support MB Sat-1, a dedicated MicroGEO satellite procured when Oman’s MB Group secured a nine-figure deal with Astranis in January to deliver sovereign telecommunications. The ground segment contract expands regional adoption of ST Engineering iDirect’s next-generation architecture, building upon deployments since the company introduced its cloud-native Intuition ground system to orchestrate dynamic space payloads.
Intuition Platform Architecture and Gateway Integration
At the core of the deployment is the Intuition platform, a cloud-native ground networking system engineered to provide automated resource management and elastic service scaling. Designed to interface directly with software-defined satellite payloads, the platform centralizes baseband processing and network orchestration within a virtualized software framework. This architecture enables MBSat to dynamically allocate bandwidth, manage beam configurations, and provision secure private networks across energy, maritime, and defense sectors without deploying dedicated hardware for each customer workflow.
Executive Perspectives on Sovereign Connectivity
Leadership from both organizations emphasized that software-defined ground systems provide the operational agility required for national digital infrastructure.
“Through our collaboration with ST Engineering iDirect, we are establishing the technical infrastructure required to launch services efficiently, respond to evolving customer needs and expand into new markets,” stated Ammar Al Rawahi, General Manager of MBSat.
“We are providing MBSat with a flexible, software-defined ground platform that integrates with its existing operational environment,” added Sridhar Kuppanna, Chief Executive Officer of ST Engineering iDirect. “This enables more efficient service deployment and operations today, with the flexibility to scale, introduce new capabilities and evolve as requirements change.”
Operational Commissioning and 2027 Service Horizon
ST Engineering iDirect and MBSat will complete ground station installation and gateway integration across teleport facilities in Oman over the coming months. The terrestrial infrastructure will undergo end-to-end network validation ahead of the launch of MB Sat-1, preparing the sovereign network to enter commercial service in 2027.
