On Friday, October 23, 2026, Polish space optics manufacturer Scanway S.A. and Indian Earth observation firm Pixxel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand strategic cooperation on advanced optical payloads.

Signed during a Polish trade mission to India attended by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański, the agreement broadens an existing telescope supply contract into joint instrument development and satellite data commercialization.
Commercial Strategy and Data-as-a-Service Alignment
The expanded partnership supports Scanway’s 2026–2028 strategic roadmap, transitioning the hardware supplier toward recurring Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) revenue models. Combining Scanway’s optoelectronic systems with Pixxel’s hyperspectral processing platforms will allow the companies to co-develop commercial imagery products. The collaboration builds on commercial momentum established after Pixxel raised $100 million in Series C funding in September to accelerate constellation deployments.
Sub-Meter Optical Development and Payload Specifications
Building on Scanway’s ongoing delivery of optical telescopes to Pixxel, the technical framework targets next-generation instruments across visible and infrared bands. Scanway aims to achieve sub-meter imaging capabilities of approximately 50 centimeters ground sampling distance from low Earth orbit by late 2028, targeting commercialization by 2029. The technical scope also includes optical packages for space domain awareness, lunar exploration systems, and integration across Pixxel’s operational Firefly hyperspectral satellite constellation.
Executive Perspectives on Cross-Border Integration
Company leadership highlighted that pairing Polish optics manufacturing with Indian satellite infrastructure unlocks joint commercial opportunities across European and Asian markets.
“Deepening our cooperation with Pixxel gives us the opportunity to further develop advanced optical instruments and opens a range of new business opportunities,” stated Mikołaj Podgórski, Chief Operating Officer of Scanway.
“Our collaboration with Scanway combines complementary expertise in satellite engineering and advanced optical technologies, creating opportunities to develop next-generation instruments and pursue more integrated satellite missions,” added Awais Ahmed, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Pixxel.
European-Indian Market Expansion and Institutional Horizon
Supported by participation from the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the partners plan to share testing facilities and coordinate supply chains. Together, Scanway and Pixxel will pursue joint contract bids for upcoming civil, defense, and institutional tenders issued by the European Space Agency (ESA) and European Union bodies.
