Digital Ship will be host at the Hamburg Messe on September 8th during SMM two highly focused sessions: The Connectivity Industry Briefing and The Cyber Challenge: Maritime Risk & Safety Forum.
Both of these targeted half day sessions have been designed to provide a snapshot of the latest developments in maritime technology and what the impact of these really mean for end users and suppliers alike, and, above all, to investigate what influence these developments will have on the future of shipping.
The Connectivity Industry Briefing
The Connectivity Industry Briefing, co-hosted by Intelsat, will look at how Innovation & Evolution in Maritime Connectivity is changing the landscape by improving operational agility, creating enhanced efficiency, and reducing costs for the ship owner and manager. Expert speakers and panellists have been drawn from some of the most influential companies in the sector, including: BIMCO, E.R. Schiffahrt, Reederei Nord B.V., ECS-Essberger Crewing Services GmbH, Chemikalien Seetransport, and Wallem Europe—who will use these panels to discuss:
- Trends in the Industry: connected ships, the Industrial Internet of Things, Big Data, and the impact improved connectivity has on end-users
- Innovation in Space: new satellite technologies and new constellations – what do these mean for users now and in the not too distant future, investing in innovation
- Evolution on the Ground: flat panel developments, lighter and smaller antennas
- Integration of Applications: and how these impact the end user
The Cyber Challenge: Maritime Risk & Safety Forum
The Cyber Challenge: Maritime Risk & Safety Forum (sponsored by ABS, Dualog, EPSCO-Ra, Ericsson, Globecomm, and Inmarsat) will look at how the industry is reacting to the advent of increased cyber threats born out of the growing use of cloud and IoT applications, the number of devices used, and larger ships but fewer crew – meaning even more reliance on automation and remote monitoring. The Forum will discuss what policies, guidelines and best practices are already in place, and how the industry can identify, quantify and mitigate cyber risk; it will also ask if there is a gulf between perception and reality, and what are the real business risks?
Digital Ship will debate these questions during a highly interactive and focused series of panels, which will seek to address the emerging, and demanding, relationship between maritime safety and cyber security. Speakers and panellists include BIMCO, European Defence Agency, Hoegh LNG, TORM, and The Nautical Institute, alongside renowned experts from technology and communications providers.
