On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Danish small satellite provider GomSpace and Ukrainian technology firm STETMAN signed a strategic agreement at the EU-Ukraine Business Summit in Brussels to establish UASAT.

This joint venture is dedicated to developing sovereign, dual-use satellite communication capabilities for Ukraine, aimed at strengthening national resilience and long-term technological independence.
The signing ceremony was attended by high-level representatives from the Ukrainian government, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and the Eastern Neighborhood (DG ENEST).
Context: National and Defense Solutions
The UASAT initiative is being executed through GomSpace’s National & Defense Solutions business unit. This division was specifically established to help national authorities develop independent space assets, a strategic priority that has gained urgency across Europe. Earlier in 2026, GomSpace reported record financial growth driven by its “Programs” unit, which saw a 100% revenue increase as institutional and defense customers sought repeatable, modular satellite clusters.
STETMAN, founded in 2023, brings wartime operational experience to the venture. The company is already a recognized integrator of resilient communications for the Ukrainian defense sector, specializing in terminals and systems designed to operate in complex, electronic warfare-heavy environments.
Executive Perspectives: UASAT Leadership
“Satellite communications have become a critical enabler for both civilian society and national security in times of crisis. Through UASAT, we are combining Ukrainian operational experience with GomSpace’s space technology expertise to build a sovereign capability that strengthens resilience and long-term independence.” — Dmytro Stetsenko, Founder and CEO of STETMAN.
“In the current geopolitical environment, sovereign access to strategic space assets is a necessity. We are pleased to partner with STETMAN in a focused and purpose-driven collaboration with a clear mission.” — Carsten Drachmann, CEO of GomSpace.
Deployment Roadmap to 2026
The joint venture has established an accelerated timeline to achieve initial operational feedback. The partners are scheduled to launch the first UASAT satellite in the fall of 2026. This inaugural mission will serve as a technical validator for a broader roadmap of sovereign space assets. Further details regarding the constellation’s technical specifications and ground infrastructure will be released in accordance with operational security protocols.
