RF-Design GmbH has introduced the FiberLink CompactLine FCLR1811S4, a 1RU 19″ modular platform designed to consolidate RF-over-Fiber (RFoF) transmission and system monitoring. The system, developed at the company’s headquarters in Bensheim, Germany, is engineered for teleports, satellite earth stations, and broadcast environments seeking to reduce hardware footprint and complexity in RF infrastructure.

Technical Specifications and Performance
The FCLR1811S4 supports RF-over-Fiber transmission for frequencies up to 2.5 GHz, covering standard L-band and extended frequency requirements. The platform’s modular architecture allows for up to eight freely configurable 1:1 redundant links, which can be upgraded during active operation to prevent service downtime.
Key technical parameters include:
- Transmission Distance: Reliability maintained for distances up to 20 km.
- Redundancy: Integrated 1:1 link redundancy with intelligent system control.
- Monitoring: Up to four additional dedicated monitoring links.
- Maintenance: Integrated switchable RF test generator for field diagnostics and system validation.
Deployment and Infrastructure Impact
By integrating monitoring and intelligent control functions into a single 1RU chassis, the FCLR1811S4 replaces the need for multiple discrete components typically found in traditional RF chains. This consolidation aims to minimize potential points of failure and streamline interface management within high-availability environments.
According to Managing Director Ralf Mayr, the system emphasizes transparency and rapid response capabilities, allowing operators to manage complex infrastructures with fewer hardware interfaces. The product is the latest addition to RF-Design’s 28-year portfolio of RF distribution and monitoring solutions.
Availability and Integration
The FiberLink CompactLine FCLR1811S4 is now available for integration into existing teleport architectures. The modular design ensures compatibility with varying scale requirements, from small-scale broadcast setups to large-scale international satellite gateways.
