[Satnews] Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has launched a new company-wide community service program with a signature campaign designed to encourage its 22,000 employees to volunteer about 40,000 hours of community service over a 120-day period.
Harris’ new HEART (Harris Employees Actively Responding Together) program is an integrated platform that helps employees learn about specific needs and events in their respective communities and to locate volunteer opportunities that are meaningful to them. It includes an online tracking portal with volunteer opportunities; a Community Affairs Network of local HEART volunteers; guides, templates and grants for employee initiated projects; and signature campaigns and events scheduled throughout the year. Harris launched the program with its first signature campaign—120 Days of Service, which aligns with the company’s 120-year anniversary this year. Every employee is being encouraged to volunteer a minimum of 120 minutes of service over a 120-day period beginning March 1, 2016. Harris has set a goal of donating 40,000 hours of volunteer time to philanthropic causes in support of this campaign.
In addition to promoting individual volunteer work, the 120 Days of Service campaign will feature large-scale team events at various Harris locations. During the team projects, employees will assemble summer STEM kits for elementary school students, hygiene kits for homeless veterans and families, and food packs for low-income students.
