ISPCS 2014—Intense Industry Interactions In New Mexico (Event)

September 11, 2014

[SatNews] For its 10th year, ISPCS will bring together the global space community for two days of intense interaction on October 15-16, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Focused by this year’s theme, The Power of 10, noted keynote speakers and panelists will examine how the progress of the past 10 years has reshaped the global space industry and positions commercial space development and operations for a powerful future.

“Over the past 10 years, commercial space companies have demonstrated the will to channel and control not only physical power but also political and economic power to build successful launch companies, manufacture space vehicles, and construct spaceports,” said Pat Hynes, ISPCS chair. “There is no turning back. Those investing in commercial space now include state and federal governments, major aerospace industry icons, Silicon Valley companies and individual investors. The industry is already stepping up to the challenge to provide the United States with safe, reliable access to orbit and the International Space Station.”

ISPCS aims to set the industry standard for commercial space conferences by providing an annual call to action to increase access to space for all. The Power of collaboration is our greatest asset. This year, 40 speakers will take the stage during the two-day conference. The agenda provides fast-paced conversation in a focused series of plenary sessions. Speakers will not only look back at the industry's progress in the past 10 years, but will also talk about harnessing the power and energy needed to shape the industry for the next 10 years.

“Getting to space has always been about focusing energy, and it still is,” Hynes said. “At ISCPS 2014, we will discuss how our industry is leveraging the potential of suborbital and orbital space assets capabilities for government, commercial and academic user markets. This is not an ‘old’ or a ‘new’ space conference; this conference is about doing business in the space industry of now, the 21st century.”

Competitors with different viewpoints will present relevant point and counter-point discussions in a public forum, setting the stage for more informed private discussions. Industry leaders and competitors, including Jeff Greason of XCOR Aerospace, George Whitesides of Virgin Galactic, Clay Mowry of Arianespace USA, and George Sowers of United Launch Alliance, will also address topics and detailed information not shared at other conferences. Full session descriptions are at https://www.ispcs.com.

Additionally, industry leaders and their customers have the opportunity to meet in an intimate setting, where the power of personal relationships can shape future partnerships. Public input on regulations, as well as critical one-on-one conversations with government leaders such as Bill Gerstenmaier, Doug Loverro and George Nield, are also made available to ISPCS participants.

“The underlying question for this year’s ISPCS is this: Does this growing community of space visionaries possess the personal and financial will to sustain and increase the number of humans in space within the next 10 years?” Hynes asks. “We are going to find out.”

ISPCS Critical Questions:

  • Is this a consumer-investible industry, yet? If so, who is making an investment beyond the government?
  • Does this growing community of space visionaries possess the personal and financial will to sustain and increase the number of humans in space within
    the next 10 years?
  • Do we have a critical mass in a market place, yet?
  • How have the heritage companies adapted their strategies for competing in the CST business?
  • Are small satellite companies creating a forcing function in the industry?
