Synapse TV enables broadcasters and media owners to stream real-time and on-demand content to compatible Freeview HD and Freesat STBs and connected TVs in the U.K., all at a fraction of the cost of traditional over-the-air (OTA) broadcasting. Synapse TV also provides simultaneous streaming of the same content to smartphones, tablets, games consoles and PCs.
Synapse TV brings together industry-leading streaming solutions provider Simplestream and MHEG specialists S&T to collectively develop a comprehensive Over-The-Top (OTT) solution. Synapse TV technology will pave the way for broadcasters and media owners to reach millions of homes, providing both encrypted and unencrypted delivery, payment mechanisms andsophisticatedanalytics. The Synapse TV joint venture is powered by Simplestream’s Media Manager and Catchup TV technology, as well as MHEG applications, security and mediator components from S&T, providing a fully-integrated,one-stop solutionfor multi-screen delivery.
Synapse TV OTT channels are listed alongside OTA channels in the receivers native electronic programme guide (EPG) and so are accessed by a consumer in exactly the same way by the viewer using a standard remote control. All viewer activity can be tracked, which allows content providers a unique insight into exactly what is being watched and by whom.
Premium content delivered OTT can be protected using the industry-standard encryption supported by the Freeview and Freesat platforms, in addition to a range of complementary mechanisms developed by S&T to help ensure that only authorised viewers can access it. Content may be monetized via any combination of advertising, subscription or pay-per-view.
