Beam Communications Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of World Reach Limited (ASX: WRR), celebrates its 10th anniversary as the only manufacturer of satellite communications products in Australia.

Beam was founded 2002 in Melbourne following a request by Telstra and Iridium to design and manufacture a satellite terminal for the Australian market using the Iridium Satellite Constellation that would emulate a typical PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) Telstra homeline service over satellite. With Iridium’s global presence and focus in the maritime market, Beam packaged the same terminal with accessories that made it the ideal solution for the Iridium crew and captain calling services that very quickly saw the export business expanded into Asia, North America and Asia.

Following the success with Telstra and other strategic partners around the globe, Beam rapidly expanded its product portfolio to include the development of in-vehicle docking solutions and data modems. Driven by customers needs for specific applications, Beam continued to focus on the Research and Development of various product initiatives in the coming years.

Beam’s target markets include maritime, transport, mining, construction, government, emergency services and Universal Service Obligations. Beam has launched some innovative solutions to target specific applications. Some examples are anti-piracy solutions for secure communication onboard commercial and leisure vessels, portable specialized “Crisis Kits” for airlines, as well as miniature all in one data modems for remote telemetry and tracking applications.
