On its stand at IBC, AXON Digital Design will introduce its first product in the range of JPEG2000 enabled broadcast products. This product, the HLD100, a HD version of the previously presented SLD100, is the direct result of the partnership with intoPIX (10.D31), a provider of JPEG 2000 compression solutions. Furthermore, new at IBC is the SLD 200 long time SD-SDI uncompressed baseband video delay with two discrete output delays. The SLD 200 has been developed with +1 and +2 hour film channel, time zone compensation and Clip Server applications. The two individual output format engines of the SLD200 enable seperate outputs with different delays (such as +1 Hour and 2 Hour). The JPEG 2000 enabled HLD100 module can store and delay up to two hours of HD material including all blanking as RAW data.

The SLD100, SLD200 and HLD100 employ SSD disk technology making the modules extremely robust and reliable with very low maintenance requirements. Furthermore, when compared to rival server-based solutions, they have a relatively low environmental impact. The power consumption of this dual slot device is approximately 35W—a ten-fold energy saving over comparable server based unit, which generates significant cost savings through decreased energy consumption and air conditioning requirements. The hardware employed within the units is fully 3Gb/s SDI capable, ensuring future proof investment for later planned migration to HD and 3Gb/s workflows.

Comtech Xicom Technology, Inc. has announced an expanded 12.75 to 14.5 GHz frequency coverage option for its Ku-band, traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs). These will be shown at Stand 1.F80, Hall, at the RAI in Amsterdam. Comtech Xicom’s new line of high-efficiency, antenna-mount, TWTAs including models XTD-400KHE and XTD-750KHE are capable of operating across this entire band. Xicom’s model XTD-1250KL antenna-mount amplifier, as well as the new XTRT-1250KL rack-mount amplifier with touch screen control interface, are also available with the extended wide-band coverage. With continued strong demand for Ku-band SATCOM bandwidth, the addition of a Ku-band amplifier covering from 12.75 to 13.25 GHz provides critical bandwidth for new systems and emerging applications. In support of this new bandwidth, Comtech Xicom is now offering 400W, 750W and 1250W TWTAs that provide full spec-compliant performance over the expanded band in the same package and with the same features as the standard band products. Data sheets of these TWT amplifiers are available including detailed specifications, functional block diagrams and package outline drawings.

Volicon announced that the company’s new Observer® 7.0 transport stream (TS) MPEG transport stream logging and monitoring system will make its European debut during IBC2012. This new release of Volicon’s flagship system has been enhanced to accommodate an even broader array of inputs, provide even greater channel-monitoring density, and enable management of these many inputs and channels through an even more intuitive user interface. Observer 7.0 boosts system density for HD and SD programs and now supports a range of formats including ASI, QAM, 8-VSB, DVB-T, and DVB-S MPEG TS interfaces. A newly simplified user interface makes it even easier for cable, satellite, broadcast, and IPTV operators to address the volume and complexity of broadcast and network services. Leveraged across these enterprises, Observer 7.0 can provide benefits to hundreds of users. Its low-resolution proxy streaming functionality gives executives the benefit of easy desktop review of live and recorded content, enables engineering staff to monitor and maintain quality of experience, and gives sales staff a tool for rapid ad verification.

Observer 7.0 users can log MPEG transport streams continuously, as well as stream and export content to all stakeholders in the media enterprise. Because Observer TS logs the full transport stream, a user can go back an hour, a day, a week, or a month to examine and/or export content and effectively eliminate chronic issues with service handoffs. Low bit rate proxies, WMV or H.264, and DVR-like frame-accurate controls allow for easy content review, even when operating over an enterprise network or WAN. In addition to enabling users to stream and export content to all stakeholders in the media enterprise, Observer 7.0 also supports monitoring of A/V content including BS.1770-2 loudness and other correlations of data and video. The Observer loudness monitoring module enables measurement of AC3 dialnorm levels and monitoring according to ITU BS.1770-1 and BS.1770-2, EBU Recommendation R 128, EBU Tech 3342 and 3342, ARIB TR-B32, ATSC A/85 RP 2011, and CALM Act (FCC Report 11-182A1) standards and specifications. Intuitive overlay controls provide continuous measurements that identify program loudness and loudness range, and high-visibility audio, video, and measurement graphs and data combine with fast, accurate access logged content to enable the export of an A/V affidavit with loudness data overlaid.

Wohler Technologies has unveiled the Wohler ContentProbe, a full-featured compliance recorder that employs dedicated, purpose-built hardware and software to provide cost-effective monitoring and fault tracking for audio, video, and subtitles/captions. In addition, the company announced the availability of options for loudness compliance monitoring as well as MPEG/ASI content monitoring, both slated for availability within Q1 2013. ContentProbe is designed to provide best-in-class performance with RealSync™ accurate playback of audio and video, automated alarming, and extensive search, as well as review and reporting capabilities. An intuitive, feature-rich Silverlight® web interface supports frame-accurate cueing and easy export of marked clips for external users. Up to four video channels and 16 audio channels, combined with up to 90 days per channel of RAID 5 hot-swappable storage and dual power supplies, are contained in a single 1-RU enclosure. The Wohler ContentProbe compliance recorder is available and shipping now. Additional products being shown at IBC2012 include the Company’s RadiantGrid™ (transcoding + transformation), WohlerCoder™ and Wohler Converter™ (multi-platform content delivery).
