Hiltron GmbH has a new addition to its range of satellite communication products, following the signing of a distribution agreement with U.S.-based Crystal Solutions. Introduced at NAB 2012, and making its first European exhibition appearance on the Hiltron stand, Sentry is an easy-to-use software-based spectrum monitor and recording system designed for use in satellite communication. It allows multiple RF sources to be monitored by single spectrum analyser and a single interface. When integrated with a monitoring and control system, Sentry can respond to detected anomalies and automatically route affected signals for further investigation. It can also switch an earth station path to restore services. A single screen displays 10 thumbnail views providing a comprehensive overview of all monitored services. Users can see at a glance the carrier name, center frequency, bandwidth and power measurements for each monitored spectrum. Traces refresh as they update. Each thumbnail can be expanded for detailed inspection. Three virtual spectrum analyser windows combine to control and view the remote test instrument. Multiple users can share the same spectrum analyzer to view any part of the spectrum they wish to see. Multiple alarm limits can be set on each carrier. Sentry then generates an alert and can initiate spectrum recording if any limit is breached. Recorded traces can be exported to .avi format for review by others. Users can generate and update a baseline record for an individual carrier. Integral reporting tools allow users to perform detailed trending and analysis on their carriers for troubleshooting as well as viewing performance metrics over time to predict and prevent anomalies. Sentry is compatible with leading brands of broadcast test equipment and is shipped as a VMWare ESXi / VMWare Server virtual appliance or pre-installed on a 1 rack-unit server.
