digiGO! — The Digital (R)Evolution™

Alloptic, a developer of RF over glass (RFoG) and passive optical networking (PON) solutions for telecom, CATV, and private network operators worldwide, has now made available its 802.3av compliant 10G EPON solution. The 10G-EPON technology, which is available for controlled introduction, is supported from Alloptic’s edge10™ optical line terminal (OLT). Alloptic has deployed IEEE standard 802.3ah-compliant 1 Gbps EPON (1G-EPON) systems worldwide, supporting a wide range of services, including IPTV, VoIP, and cellular backhaul. IEEE 802.3av builds upon the IEEE standard 802.3ah, allowing seamless upgrades via the simultaneous operation of 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps symmetric and asymmetric EPON systems on the same outside plant. This enables service providers to introduce 10G-based services without replacing existing 1G-EPON customer equipment, thereby minimizing the operational impact of upgrading a large, in-service FTTH network. The recently ratified 802.3av standard leapfrogs other PON technologies with its 10Gbps throughput. Alloptic offers seamless support for 1G and 10G PONs on a single OLT. A common fiber infrastructure now can concurrently support 1G, 10G and RFoG architectures. The Alloptic 10G EPON solution is currently available for trial. Providing solutions for future-proof network migrations, Alloptic extends its leadership position in the FTTx market.

Endavo Media, a provider of Internet TV platforms, signed a multi-year, white-label platform licensing deal with Etisalat, a leading telecom services provider in the Middle East and one of the top 20 telecom operators worldwide. Under the agreement, Etisalat will install Endavo`s platform to support the roll-out of an IP-based over-the-top (OTT) video delivery infrastructure over its own Internet and wireless networks. Etisalat will market its video services to broadcasters and content producers across 17 countries, including all of the Middle East and part of North Africa. The licensing deal expands the growing relationship between the Internet TV provider and the global telecom company. Etisalat`s decision to license the Endavo platform is the first of many steps Etisalat plans to take in order to leverage its many assets, such as the Emirates Exchange, which is peered to more than 1,000 networks worldwide, and the FLAG fiber connection, which provides the majority of Internet bandwidth in the region. This will enable content owners in the region to reach users beyond their current satellite coverage area or terrestrial broadcast network.

Spring Design announced Alex™, the first e-book based on Google Android featuring full browser capabilities and patented dual screen interaction technology, the Duet Navigator™. The Alex livens up text with multimedia links, adding a new dimension to the reading experience and potentially creating a whole new industry for secondary publications that supplement and enhance original text. Alex’s dual-screen display design brings together the efficiency of reading on a monochrome EPD (electronic paper display) screen while dynamic hyperlinked multimedia information and third party input on its secondary color LCD screen, actually an integrated Android mobile device, opens a rich world of Internet content to support the text on the main screen. Alex is the first Google Android-based e-book device to provide full Internet browsing over Wi-Fi or mobile networks such as 3G, EVDO/CDMA and GSM. With its dual-screen, multi-access capability, it provides the entire Web universe as a handy reference library, prompting users to delve into its vast information base to complement, clarify or enhance what they are reading. Alex is the first truly mobile wireless e-book device that gives users their own personalized library on the go, whenever and wherever they need it.

Statmon Technologies Corp. and Digital Nirvana, Inc. have unveiled a collaborative project and preferred partnership agreement involving Statmon Technologies Corp. AXESS® technology management platform and Digital Nirvana’s Monitor IQ® Broadcast Monitoring System. The integration of these two platforms creates a uniquely insightful and intuitive management environment encompassing discrete device as well as third party systems management (monitoring and control), digital transport stream monitoring and reporting, Nielsen® LPM® data monitoring and reporting, content recording, monitoring and reporting, along with facilities management as a cohesive integrated view into the entire broadcast enterprise from ingest to transmission / distribution. The solution provides quick and accurate identification and mapping of exceptions and discrepancies in the broadcast signal to the actual video content by leveraging AXESS’s ability to aggregate and present unlimited quantities of data from devices, remote sites, and third party systems into a customizable intuitive interface and Monitor IQ’s ability to record, monitor, clip, repurpose and distribute content (HD and SD) for either internal or external purposes.
