Dayton is becoming a center for UAV development — the state of Ohio has just gifted the city $500K for a UAV technology center for application to UAVs and UAS craft.
The Center For Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Exploitation received this grant from the Ohio Controlling Board, which will find civilian and military technology development. This project is also going to be supported to the tune of $2.5 million by the Ohio Third Frontier Commission, but those particular funds have not yet been released to the Center. The Center’s goal will be to work on drones and bring new capabilities to the aircraft as well as to see what can be done to reduce their size and costs. Approximately 50 new jobs over the next five years will open up due to the Center’s work and the hunt is on for a Director as well as a variety of equipment. Dayton is the home of Wright-Patterson AFB which manages the U.S.A.F. UAV program and invests resources in UAV research as well as purchase the craft from providers.
