Coming Down The Hard Way… On The Moon

The Japan’s lunar explorer KAGUYA, which is now in the extended operational phase, has been carrying out observations of the Moon from lower altitude since February 1, 2009, to continue observations in more detail.

The KAGUYA will conclude its scientific mission to the Moon when the craft undertakes a controlled impact on the lunar surface. The expected KAGUYA impact point is shown in the attendant graphic. The expected impact time and date is 18:30 hours on June 10th, 2009 (GMT) near side, night time area, with the expected impact location being E80, S61.
