  • Hot Bird-6 satellite (3) DISTRIBUTION — Eutelsat Communications has expanded the distribution network in France of their Tooway™ service, with the signature of an agreement with Numéo S.A..The Tooway™ service offers a fully satellite-based broadband solution to consumers beyond range of ADSL networks. Numéo specializes in providing Internet services for rural areas and has been marketing wireless broadband access solutions for underserved areas since 2004, and commercializes the offers of Public Initiative Networks in more than 30 French departments. Tooway™ is provided through Ka-band capacity on Eutelsat’s HOT BIRD-6 satellite, which provides full coverage of France via a high-power regional beam. The service is operated by Skylogic, Eutelsat’s broadband affiliate, from its SkyPark teleport in Turin.

  • Kontron ETX-DC computing module HARDWARE — Kontron in Eching, Germany, is introducing the ETX-DC embedded computing module for POS and industrial control applications as well as for harsh environments that require passive cooling and sealed housings. The ETX-DC is based on the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor N270 that is part of the Intel Embedded Roadmap to ensure a seven-year life cycle. The embedded computer has 2.5 Watts TDP for the processor, 6 watts TDP for the Intel 82945GSE graphics memory controller hub and 1.5 Watts TDP for the Intel I/O controller hub 7-M (ICH7-M), and requires a maximum TDP of 12 to 15 Watts.



  • Paradigm Satellite communications provider NSSL has been selected by Paradigm Services Ltd (PSL) to provide welfare Internet services to a selection of Fleet assets, as an extension to the Inmarsat based services already provided to PSL for their Skynet 5 service. NSSL will provide voice and broadband services, as part of the crew welfare package, for deployed personnel on selected Minor War Vessels (MWV) (fewer than 50 personnel), Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) vessels, support ships and submarines. The solution, which enables sailors to stay in touch with their loved ones back home and keep up to date with current events, includes Internet access and 30 minutes of voice communications per sailor, per week.

  • SkyTrac BUSINESS — SkyTrac Systems has been selected to provide satellite communication and flight following systems to Hydro One. By equipping its fleet of AS350 B2, AS350 B3, and B206 L3 aircraft, Hydro One will enhance operational safety while flying in remote, isolated locations. Hydro One, through its Helicopter Services Group conducts power line inspection and maintenance to more than 28,000 kilometers of transmission line over some of Canada’s most rugged and isolated terrain. The company determined it would enhance safety by providing communication with the flight crew, thus the introduction of the new SkyTrac equipment.
