According to the Japanese Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan is making plans to launch a satellite that would provide observation data without a “proper” communication network on the ground. Mr. Yoshitsugu Harada indicated that network infrastructure is insufficient for such communications through various areas of the Asia Pacific region. “To answer this issue, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) will launch, in 2008, a Wideband Internetworking Engineering Test and Demonstration Satellite—WINDS.”
Last September, Japan launched their KAGUYA (Selene) lunar exploration satellite and the country is now preparing to start their full-scale observation of the moon. Plus, Japan’s experimental module is set for launch to the International Space Station early next year.
