Pride in product and technology is heightened when such are acknowledged by patent authorities, a real “pat on the back” and recognition of competency. Now awarded with two Canadian Patents and two Australian Patents is Mobile Satellite Ventures, majority owned and controlled by SkyTerra Communications, Inc. [OTCBB:SKYT]. These patents protect essential aspects of the company’s mobile satellite services (MSS) and ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) technology.
According to specifics of the patents, user devices have the potential to seamlessly switch from the satellite to the terrestrial component and vise versa in order to avoid dropping calls. Meanwhile, highly efficient spectrum reuse techniques are employed to maximize overall system capacity and reduce costs to end-users. MSV was awarded its first ATC patent for Europe in 2006 and has a variety of satellite and terrestrial communications patents pending around the globe. The most recent Australian and Canadian patents include "System and Method of Terrestrial Frequency Reuse Using Signal Attenuation and Dynamic Channel Assignment” and "Coordinated Satellite-Terrestrial Frequency Reuse.”
MSV is Redefining Wireless Communications through its development of a hybrid satellite-terrestrial communications network, based on MSV’s patented ancillary terrestrial component (ATC) technology. The company expects its nextgen network will provide seamless, transparent and ubiquitous wireless coverage of the United States and Canada to conventional handsets. MSV plans to launch two of the most powerful commercial satellites ever built that will enable this network to support communications in a variety of areas including public safety, homeland security, aviation, transportation and entertainment, by providing a platform for interoperable, user-friendly and feature-rich voice and high-speed data services—Reston, Virginia
