At the AFCEA LandWarNet 2007 being held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a single backpack portable satellite terminal from Norsat International (“Norsat”) (TSX: NII and OTC BB: NSATF) came to light. Named the Norsat Rover, this is the first product in the company’s Rover Family, which is a line of ultra portable satellite terminal systems. The Rover is a complete satellite terminal and fits into a single, extended-mission backpack. A segmented carbon fiber antenna; a high precision, low-profile tripod; a mode; a low noise block (LNB) converter; a satellite alignment aid (including spectrum analyzer and DVB-S receiver); and a license for the company’s proprietary user interface software are all part and parcel of this offering.
According to Dr. Amiee Chan, the President and CEO of Norsat International, the company is the only provider offering a complete terminal capable of data transfer rates of approximately 1 Mbps, yet still compact enough to fit into the backpack. The Norsat Rover is currently available with a 1m Ku-band antenna, with other frequency bands and antenna sizes under development—Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada—August 23, 2007
