On October 13, 2026, Czech defense and industrial conglomerate Czechoslovak Group (CSG) announced the acquisition of a 9.5% equity stake in Canadian satellite manufacturer MDA Space Ltd., establishing the European group as the company’s largest single shareholder.
According to reporting from Space Intel Report, CSG paid approximately C$618.5 million ($434 million) for the minority interest.
Strategic Investment Terms and European Assembly Plans
CSG executed the share purchase through a dedicated investment subsidiary, describing itself as a long-term strategic shareholder. Under the strategic framework, CSG aims to explore joint co-investments with MDA Space to develop European satellite manufacturing and integration facilities, as well as collaborate on future industry acquisitions.
To steer its orbital initiatives, CSG established a dedicated three-person space team tasked with methodically expanding the group’s footprint across satellite defense and aerospace programs. The move aligns with rising European defense expenditures and expanding demand for sovereign space capabilities across NATO member nations.
Corporate Expansion and Industrial Context
The equity purchase follows MDA Space’s recent capital market expansion, having completed a $300 million U.S. initial public offering and NYSE dual-listing to broaden its international institutional investor base. MDA Space has scaled production across high-volume constellation contracts, including prime contractor manufacturing for Telesat Lightspeed and the deployment of its software-defined MDA AURORA satellite platform.

Long-Term Industrial Road Map
CSG plans to progressively build out its space division by leveraging MDA Space’s engineering heritage in geointelligence, space robotics, and satellite payloads. As both organizations assess prospective European assembly sites, the partnership positions MDA Space to access expanding European defense procurement programs while anchoring CSG’s entry into the space industrial sector.
