ROME — Building upon a reseller agreement established in 2024, e-GEOS and American space technology firm Umbra have formalized a multi-year strategic alliance to jointly develop and distribute geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) solutions.
The agreement moves beyond simple data distribution, positioning the companies to integrate their respective satellite constellations into a unified offering. The collaboration leverages the COSMO-SkyMed First and Second Generation satellites—a program funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Italian Ministry of Defense—alongside Umbra’s agile commercial Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) constellation. By combining the wide coverage and high power of the COSMO-SkyMed system with Umbra’s high-revisit small satellites, the partnership aims to increase the frequency and resolution of data available for global situational awareness.
Under the terms of the agreement, the companies have delineated clear geographic market responsibilities. e-GEOS—a joint venture owned 80 percent by Telespazio (Leonardo) and 20 percent by ASI—will focus on service delivery in Europe and South America. Umbra will lead operations across North America, Asia, and other international territories.
e-GEOS plans to apply its proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to Umbra’s SAR data to create new analytics products. These tools are designed to support mission-critical applications, including infrastructure monitoring, disaster response, and maritime domain awareness, by providing high-fidelity modeling of dynamic ground events.

This strategic expansion follows the [link: 2024 agreement] wherein Umbra granted e-GEOS non-exclusive global distribution rights to its SAR imagery. The deeper integration aligns with Leonardo’s broader strategy to utilize space-based data for secure decision-making in defense and security sectors.

Both entities will now focus on integrating their data pipelines to support the new combined service model, aiming to provide multi-daily updates for government and commercial clients requiring persistent monitoring capabilities.
