HughesNet launched the EchoStar 19 Satellite, also known as Jupiter 2, on Friday, December 18, 2016, from Cape Canaveral.
Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services was selected to coordinate the launch of the satellite aboard an Atlas 5 rocket. This is the highest capacity, multi-spot beam, Ka-band satellite in history and was built on a SSL 1300 platform, allowing for greater flexibility and proven reliability. In the months following the launch, HughesNet intends to reach an unprecedented number of customers and deliver even better services.
HughesNet was founded in 1971 and has continually been a leader in satellite Internet services. They were recognized in 2015 and 2016 by the FCC as the #1 company in delivering advertised speeds. HughesNet has seen steady growth in spite of having fully booked beams—Jupiter 2 was launched in order to stay abreast of customer demand.
In 2012, HughesNet Launched EchoStar 17 / Jupiter 1, which allowed them to deliver Gen4 services with speeds of up to 15 Mbps. Jupiter 2 possesses 50 percent more capacity than Jupiter 1 and offers an estimated 15 year mission time and significantly improved coverage. EchoStar XIX will enable HughesNet to more than double its current capacity and support faster speeds and provide more data for today’s online activities.
While there are no current Internet plans being marketed, prices and plans information will be released by the close of March 2017. HughesNet hopes to continue improving the world of satellite communication through innovative technologies and top-notch customer service.
