Intelsat + HBO Latin America Group (HBO LAG)—Capacity Agreement @ IBC2014 (Event—SatBroadcasting™)

September 15, 2014

[SatNews]  Intelsat S.A. (NYSE: I) has confirmed that HBO Latin America Group (HBO LAG) has signed a new and comprehensive satellite distribution agreement with Intelsat which will optimize its reach across Latin America.

Under the new multi-year, multi-transponder agreement, HBO LAG will now leverage capacity from three of Intelsat’s premier satellite neighborhoods to distribute programming to cable, DTH and IPTV providers throughout Latin America. Intelsat will also provide HBO LAG with a teleport restoration program using the company’s teleport facilities in Ellenwood, Georgia, and Riverside, California, along with the company’s terrestrial network, IntelsatOne(sm). The three satellite video neighborhoods, Intelsat 21 located at 302 degrees East, Intelsat 11 at 317 degrees East, and following its launch scheduled for 2015, Intelsat 34 at 304.5 degrees East, will allow HBO LAG to increase the high definition (HD) channel line-up and provide access to millions of viewers throughout Latin America.

“Providing top tier programming to the Latin America and Brazil markets is central to the HBO LAG mission, and Intelsat’s video neighborhoods are unmatched in terms of distribution and reach. Our Intelsat distribution network will provide HBO LAG with increased coverage and redundancy, helping cable head end penetration, and improving our business opportunities in this fast growing region,” said Emilio Otermin, SVP Technology and Operations of HBO LAG.

“HBO LAG had very specific goals with respect to its distribution in the Latin America region, not the least of which was optimizing reach and enhancing operational performance. Intelsat is uniquely positioned to offer programmers of the caliber of HBO LAG with distribution solutions that maximize viewership and advance their growth objectives. Just as important, our media distribution platforms are built to deliver enhanced reliability and improved network redundancy, addressing operational goals,” said Carmen González-Sanfeliu, Intelsat’s Vice President, Latin America & the Caribbean. “Alongside Intelsat 21 and Intelsat 11, Intelsat 34 will reach millions of viewers; with close to 700 channels, including more than 60 HD channels and about 80 of the top 100 payTV channels in region, making our Latin America media neighborhoods the most powerful in the region.”
