Students at the University of British Columbia will now be able to get hands-on experience in developing satellite machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, thanks to a donation from Quake Global, Inc., a leading manufacturer of M2M devices for terrestrial and satellite networks.
QUAKE ™ has donated four Q4000 M2M data modems and a development kit with applications program interface software for use in the university’s satellite communications curriculum.
The QUAKE hardware and software will be used by more than 150 graduate students enrolled in the third-year electrical engineering design studio project course, and by research students pursuing projects related to supervisory control, data acquisition and monitoring of remote assets through the ORBCOMM satellite network.“We are very grateful to QUAKE for providing these state-of-the-art tools for our students,” said Professor David Michelson, who heads the Radio Science Lab in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “Thanks to QUAKE’s donation, our engineering students will get invaluable real-world experience in learning to use the latest technologies the M2M industry has to offer.”
