Cyta and Avanti are pleased to announce that the inauguration ceremony of Avanti’s Gateway Earth Station facilities at Cyta’s Makarios Teleport took place on the 30th of May 2013 under the auspices of the honorable Minister of Communication and Works of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Tasos Mitsopoulos.

The Gateway has been providing highly resilient and reliable access to customers using the HYLAS 2 satellite since November 2012. HYLAS 2 is a latest generation spacecraft that operates in Ka-band frequencies and offers broadband access across large parts of the globe in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. It provides advanced services in key high growth markets, enabling customers in underserved areas to enjoy modern communication services and high-speed internet connections.
The Minister of Communication and Works, Mr Mitsopoulos, thanked Avanti for choosing Cyprus and the facilities of Cyta for their satellite ground station. The Minister also commented: “In these difficult times for our country, it is very encouraging to see an established company such as Avanti invest in our country and we hope that many others will follow their example. Avanti is a well-known satellite company which owns and operates a fleet of telecommunications satellites and their presence here in Cyprus is a major step forward in our efforts to reinforce our position as an established regional satellite centre”
Cyta’s Chairman, Mr Stathis Kittis commented: “The operation of Avanti’s Gateways in Cyprus for access to HYLAS 2 satellite and its customers is an important strategic project for Cyta that combines extensive teleport resources with major international fiber connectivity. It is a key step in our efforts to promote Cyprus as a major telecommunications hub in the Eastern Mediterranean region and promote our services in the international marketplace.”
