Attendees of the Future Leaders Dinner at The Harmonie Club in New York City will have the distinct honor to hear from one of the founders and first commanding officer of the Navy’s premier counter-terrorism units, SEAL Team Six, the team responsible for the capture of Osama bin Laden on May 2, 2011. During the Future Leaders Dinner, SSPI presents the Promise awards to men and women under 35 with the talent and motivation to advance into leadership positions in the satellite industry, as well as the and Mentor award to one executive recognized for mentorship of the next generation.
Cdr. Richard Marcinko is one of the United States’ most accomplished and recognized special operations experts, with over thirty years of experience in a variety of specialties, including counter-terrorism, intelligence and special operations. After enlisting in the U.S. Navy, Marcinko spent his early years in the Underwater Demolition Teams. Marcinko then achieved the rank of commander after two tours in Vietnam serving as a Navy SEAL, and also served as a Naval Attaché to Cambodia. He is also one of the founders and first commanding officer and of the Navy’s premier counter-terrorism units, SEAL Team Six. SEAL Team Six has engaged in highly classified missions throughout the world, including Central America, the Middle East, the North Sea, Africa, and beyond. In order to gain further tactical advantages over terrorist networks, Cdr. Marcinko spearheaded the development of the Naval Security Coordination Team OP-06D, unofficially known as “Red Cell,” in 1985, which was tasked with testing and exploiting vulnerabilities in the U.S. military’s security infrastructure.
