SatNews.com…What’s Going On At IBC? See What’s New Right Here…

September 7, 2012

ASTON, Broadpeak, BTS, Chyron, Digital Rapids, Entropic Communications, and Envivio…

SatNews.com has assembled the rich and diverse IBC2012 information from a plethora of companies; the information is as follows in alpha order…

ASTON… introduces its latest innovative range of secure CI/CI+ 1.3 CAMs for professionals and consumers. Demonstrations of HbbTV and multi-room applications on the new digital TV reception platforms are also on the cards.

ASTON launches a range of secure CI/CI+ 1.3 professional and consumer CAMs that offer high-level performance, especially for descrambling capacities. ASTON professional CAMs can therefore descramble up to 16 channels simultaneously… the biggest descrambling capabilities in the market!

Exclusive to ASTON is the USB Ready function for which patents have been filed. The applications which this function supports will be showcased at the manufacturer’s stand. It makes CAM upgrading quick and easy, in less than 5 seconds. In addition, it enables consumers to record programmes by connecting an external hard drive to the CAM.

New HbbTV and multi-room platforms integrate HbbTV functionalities and enable multi-room functions to be easily performed.

Broadpeak… announced that Technicolor has joined the brand new Broadpeak Open Alliance (BOA), an organization dedicated to accelerating the rollout of OTT video services. By integrating Broadpeak nanoCDN technology in its home gateways, Technicolor will contribute to the BOA’s goal of creating an open environment for OTT video delivery that fosters interoperability between third-party technology providers.

By enabling a best-of-breed approach to content delivery, the BOA allows content operators to select the best technology available for each component of the delivery chain, thereby optimizing the deployment of OTT services. Initially, the alliance will focus on creating interoperability between disparate home network components, such as Broadpeak’s nanoCDN technology with Technicolor’s broadband gateways’ open software. Broadpeak nanoCDN is a revolutionary CDN technology that leverages subscribers’ home networks to reduce an operator’s infrastructure investment dramatically, enabling them to deliver high-quality video services to end users more efficiently.

BTS (Broadcast Technology Solutions) broadcast technology solutions has reached a new record by completing the 555th OB van in its factory at Weiterstadt, Germany since the company has restarted production in 1951 after World War II. BTS has served the global broadcast market with state-of-the-art technology solutions using their own developments and the technical skills.

The OB van # 555 which is on display at IBC, stand OE 120, is a very special construction: The truck for a broadcaster from the Middle East has to function in enormous heat and heavy dust, has to provide its service reliably anytime and allow productive working conditions for the staff. Challenges and technical sophistication like a cold-air-lock at the entrance and three movable air conditioners enable perfect performance.

Chyron… released ChyronIP, a real-time HD/SD 2D and 3D character and graphics generator that brings the company’s full-motion, data-driven 3D graphics to NewTek TriCaster live production systems for the first time. Loaded with all of the features and functions offered by Chyron’s Lyric™ PRO software, ChyronIP delivers key and fill signals via the TriCaster network interface, which gives producers two full HD or SD live full-motion channels of Chyron graphics without tying up any of the TriCaster’s video inputs.

Ideal for sports, news, entertainment, and other live productions, ChyronIP enables TriCaster users to employ the same type of high-impact graphics typical of premier sports and entertainment broadcasts. Because graphics data is delivered via a network connection, broadcasters can take advantage of ChyronIP for TriCaster without giving up any of the needed camera inputs that also are critical to live production. ChyronIP for TriCaster is a self-contained plug and play system in a compact lightweight chassis. Both Chyron and NewTek will demonstrate ChyronIP for TriCaster at their respective stands.

Digital Rapids… announces plans to support the MPEG-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) specification in upcoming new offerings in the company’s comprehensive range of media transformation and workflow solutions.

MPEG-DASH support will be initially available in Digital Rapids’ upcoming new solutions powered by the Kayak workflow technology platform, including version 2.0 of the Digital Rapids Transcode Manager high-volume media processing software and the StreamZ Live Broadcast integrated broadcast/multi-screen live encoder. Now ratified as an ISO standard, MPEG-DASH was designed to provide a universal standard for adaptive bit rate (ABR) delivery while incorporating the best elements of existing proprietary ABR technologies.

Digital Rapids’ MPEG-DASH encoding capabilities will include support for Dolby® Digital Plus and DTS-HD® audio technologies within the MPEG-DASH specification, enabling content providers to pair high-quality audio with superior video experiences across a broad range of viewing devices.

Digital Rapids is a member of the DASH Industry Forum, a collection of over 50 industry leading companies supporting and promoting the MPEG-DASH specification.

Entropic Communications, Inc…. announces the deployment of its set-top box (STB) system-on-a-chip (SoC) and demodulator technology in three EchoStar models, which are currently being deployed at Bell Canada, Dish Mexico and Telus.

Entropic’s STB SoC and demodulator technology, EchoStar offers fully-functional high definition (HD) satellite STBs, which are personal video recorder (PVR)-ready via external hard drives. The devices also support over-the-top (OTT) and interactive applications via an Internet connection.

Entropic’s SoC uses an integrated ARM® application CPU to power advanced application processing, with a multi-stream transport processor to support PVR functionality. It also leverages flexible, multi-format video and audio decoders and a memory controller to provide ample memory capacity for both HD picture decoding and advanced system performance. The EchoStar STBs also use Entropic’s advanced, low-power turbo-coding demodulator, which provides increased satellite system throughput by up to 35 percent utilizing existing bandwidth.

Envivio…will demonstrate advanced, personalized multi-screen services as well as video compression technology for HDTV and next-generation HEVC encoding. The Company will also debut three new products at this year’s event. Featured solutions on the Envivio stand will include:

  • HEVC encoding with 50 percent bandwidth reduction at comparable quality to MPEG-4 AVC (H.264)
  • Advanced MPEG-2 and H.264 pre-processing, encoding and statistical multiplexing for HD and SD TV
  • MPEG-DASH encoding with common encryption
  • A new 4Caster™ appliance offering increased density and a flexible design
  • TV Anytime multi-screen highlights creation and time-shifted TV including Start Over, Catch-up and network PVR capabilities on the Envivio Halo™ network media processor

  • Product demonstrations, including the recently introduced Envivio Muse™ On-Demand version 3.50, which improves file-based transcoding speed by up to 35 percent
Envivio is collaborating with a number of technology partners for various IBC demonstrations:
  • Envivio Muse Live encoding on 4Caster encoders will be on display at the Adobe, Dolby and NAGRA stands
  • Akamai, AuthenTec, NexStreaming, NXP Software, Verimatrix and VisualOn are working with Envivio to provide encryption and players for the MPEG-DASH demonstrations at the Envivio stand
  • Dolby audio experience demonstrations will be on the Envivio stand
  • Netgem set-top boxes will be utilized for the Envivio TV Anytime applications
  • Interra and VidCheck have integrated with Envivio Muse™ On-Demand and 4Balancer™ for quality control in file-based workflows
