SatBroadcasting™… This report includes new information regarding Bright Technologies, Eutlesat Communications, Harris Corporation, RRsat + Nat Geo

November 1, 2011

[SatNews] Breaking news items for those who have an interest in the various products that play significant roles within the satellite broadcasting industries….

  • Bright Technologies Inc. has announced that SGO, provider of high-end solutions for the post-production and broadcast industries, has made an agreement to support the Company’s BrightClip® intelligent data recording technology on Mistika – SGO’s powerful post-production system. The integration enables customers to benefit from Mistika’s sophisticated feature-set combined with BrightDrive’s unique tools and functionalities for a robust post-production workflow. Implementing BrightClip will enable Mistika to function seamlessly with BrightDrive media file server, the only file server developed specifically for media and entertainment. BrightClip provides superior disk recording and playback of media within the digital post-production environment by overcoming the need for data optimization. As media is moved between the different processes of a post-production workflow, BrightClip employs advanced, highly sophisticated technology to ensure content is organized logically on disks, therefore maximizing performance. Mistika is a flexible, high-end, post-production system capable of SD, HD, 2K, 4K, 5K, and stereoscopic 3D with real-time ARRI, RED Camera and other native data workflows. It seamlessly integrates timeline-based editing, conforming, infinite-layer compositing, color grading and image restoration all in one complete solution, with various toolsets working together in the timeline. Mistika will work with all three versions of BrightDrive media file server that are all equally powerful but vary in size, modularity, and performance. BrightDrive Astella, the entry-level version, is a convenient and affordable all-in-one box that combines storage, metadata server plus all the benefits and features of BrightDrive. BrightDrive G2 and G2 Pro are high-performance servers that benefit all SAN set configurations as they are fully agnostic regarding storage, applications, and preferred fibre channel fabric.

  • Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) and MBC Group have signed a multiyear contract for capacity on Eutelsat’s new ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7 satellite at 7 degrees West. The lease of a full transponder will enable MBC to expand its platform of channels addressing viewers in the Middle East and North Africa, particularly new HD content which the Group is preparing to launch in January 2012. The announcement will be made official at Digital TV Middle East, the broadcast and broadband conference taking place in Dubai from November 1st. to 2nd. The new contract cements a 20-year relationship between Eutelsat and MBC Group which began in 1991 with the launch of MBC1, the first pan-Arab, free-to-air satellite station. Over the past 18 years, MBC has developed a network comprising ten TV channels, two radio stations and a production house to forge a leading media and broadcasting group in the Middle East, among other media platforms such as VOD (shahid.net), SMS and MMS services. The move into HDTV reflects the Group’s commitment to delivering the latest technology and superior television content. Launched on September 24, ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7 brings first-class resources to 7 degrees West, an established video neighborhood delivering Arab and international channels into almost 30 million satellite homes. The satellite’s significant Ku-band resources enable broadcasters to launch new SD and HD content. Its broad footprint expands reach of satellite TV homes located from the North African Atlantic coastline across to the Gulf.

  • Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) and Marketron are working together to provide media organizations with a combined view of advertisers, revenue, inventory and other critical data across various media assets. The collaboration brings two competing media software providers together to develop a consolidated business solution for customers working across multiple mediums. The two companies are integrating the Harris® NetGain® business intelligence and analysis system with Marketron’s Mediascape open ecosystem platform to provide clients sophisticated analytics capabilities across multiple platforms. The Mediascape integration also allows data from Harris’ market-leading OSi-Traffic™ system to fuel Marketron Insight Reporting for detailed transactional and operational level reporting. This gives clients the freedom to choose best-in-class transactional systems, regardless of the provider, to manage their various inventory types, while enabling comprehensive insight and visibility across their entire cross-platform advertising business. As the media industry evolves, companies with assets in radio, television, cable, digital and more require an open platform that will provide the ability to view inventory, financial, advertiser and additional data in a common and unified method.
