The Indian Space Research Organisation’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle
According to The Times of India, the 4-stage Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will launch a 1,410kg communication satellite, GSat-12, on July 15, after a nine year hiatus of launch work. The lift-off is slated between 4:48 and 5:08 p.m. from a new, second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The satellite will be used for societal applications such as tele-education, telemedicine and village resource centre operations among others. The last time PSLV launched a communication satellite was on September 12, 2002, when it placed India’s first dedicated meteorological satellite, Metsat, in orbit.
