Cinegy is announcing new products at NAB 2011. First up is Cinegy Capture 2.0 Pro – Advanced Ingest Service. Building on the first release, the new 2.0 release brings a collection of new features along with a new ‘Pro’ version. The idea behind Cinegy Capture is as simple as it is revolutionary. One or multiple instances can be installed on a server or standard PC with the respective number of SDI cards. Once started, Cinegy Capture announces itself to the network as an appliance that can be controlled remotely via a Silverlight based web client which runs on Windows and Mac OS X alike. Cinegy Capture 2.0 Pro supports all new multi-encode and multi-wrap capabilities, allowing the toughest new HD formats to be encoded in software once and target an Avid-compatible MXF and an FCP-compatible MOV simultaneously. Cinegy Capture Pro also allows real-time generation of frame-accurate proxy formats in the latest codecs; use it to create an H.264 MP4 proxy while recording AVCI or DNxHD. Cinegy Capture 2.0 adds increased support for SDI hardware, now supporting the AJA Kona and Corvid family of IO cards, as well as the new IO Express products. Cinegy Capture 2.0 is also used as a recording engine in the AMWA-EBU FIMS demo at NAB 2011 (north hall, N3134), where Cinegy are helping to drive forward industry standards. Using the draft FIMS specifications for an open API, Cinegy Capture is the first software-based ingest system to be demonstrated working with IBM and Sony management systems creating AS-02 MXF files for processing and editing with Cube-Tec and Avid software.

Cinegy has also released the next major version of their broadcast automation and playout server solution, Cinegy Air 9.0. This latest release offers new features and improvements along with the significant addition of the newly developed Cinegy Type module for real time character generation and branding. Cinegy Type allows the addition of multiple layers of automation controlled, template based titles, logos, animated graphics, and more. From simple ticker tapes and lower thirds to multi-layer character animations Cinegy Type includes a whole range of advanced effects and features. This new module addresses simple requirements such as logo insertion right through to complex branding with templated information and animated video plates. Cinegy Type templates can be triggered by Cinegy Air Control automation with the variable parts of the templates being updated either manually or automatically. The Cinegy Type CG engine dynamically composites the different layers making it possible to independently control when different elements are visible or not during playout. Cinegy Air 9.0 includes dramatically expanded support for the most popular professional media formats. Now XDCAM HD MXF files can be simply dragged and dropped for playout, along with MXF AS-03 and QuickTime MOV files. The Cinegy Air 9.0 Engine has also been upgraded to allow the playback of H.264 encoded content, as well as allowing VANC (Vertical Ancillary Data) pass-through; enabling the embedding of closed-captions / sub-titles as well as V-Chip and aspect ratio flags.

  • Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) is extending its transmission portfolio for terrestrial TV broadcasters with new products that address the ongoing transition to digital and enrichment of over-the-air services. Harris will introduce three TV transmission products for the terrestrial broadcast space at the 2011 NAB Show (April 11-14, Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth N2502): Maxiva™ UAX Compact Class transmitter — Apex M2X™ exciter IP and satellite receiver modules — Harris Outdoor Transmission Enclosures.

The Maxiva UAX Compact Class is an air-cooled, UHF TV transmitter that provides terrestrial TV and mobile DTV broadcasters with several options to boost over-the-air services. The transmitter is ideal for extending market coverage in challenging situations, including busy urban areas that require greater building penetration. The Maxiva UAX Compact Class transmitter range system family will also include translators/transposers and single-frequency network (SFN) gap-fillers with adaptive echo cancellation, providing a full range of Harris transmission solutions that allow DTV broadcasters to cover their markets. Deployment across single-frequency networks that require multiple synchronized transmitters offers a way to reach viewers in suburban or rural areas shadowed by mountains and other obstacles. As with Maxiva ULX liquid-cooled and UAX air-cooled UHF transmitters, the Maxiva UAX Compact Class features Harris® PowerSmart® technology to create a compact, cost-efficient transmitter with high power density and low operating costs. All Maxiva family transmitters support a smooth transition to digital, supporting ATSC, ATSC-M/H, DVB-T/H, DVB-T2, FLO™, ISDB-Tb, CMMB and CTTB digital standards.

    Harris Apex M2X product infopage
Harris Apex M2X multimedia exciter technology supports global digital standards and flawless signal quality in almost every Harris TV transmitter. The exciter’s modular architecture enables simple expansion to drive new transmission solutions. Harris’ first introduction for the new exciter plug-in modules is an IP receiver to address growing broadcaster requirements for network efficiencies. New modules include an IP input for ASI streams that allows the user to manage the interface while retaining the existing backup ports in native ASI transport stream formats. A new DVB-S/DVB-S2 satellite receiver module, modeled after successful Harris satellite IRD products, allows broadcasters to download satellite content and feed it directly into the exciter without external device requirements.

Harris is also exhibiting an example of its new range of Outdoor Transmission Enclosures for cost-effective and technically-sound deployments at non-traditional broadcast transmission sites. The enclosures, constructed of steel or aluminum, provide pre-built solutions for high-power broadcasters by adding repeater sites to improve market coverage, as well as low-power, mobile and radio broadcasters that rely on shared sites or single-frequency networks. Harris Outdoor Transmission Enclosures offer everything required to support terrestrial and mobile transmission, including HVAC and electrical systems, the transmitter and associated hardware and RF systems including antennas and filters.

  • Thomson Video Networks has announced that Asia Television Ltd. (ATV), one of Hong Kong’s free-to-air broadcasters, has uprated its picture quality by deploying ViBE EM1000 encoders from Thomson Video Networks. ATV selected the Thomson ViBE encoders as part of its measures to upgrade its DTV platform. ATV is a DTTV broadcaster operating seven channels in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin to the territory of Hong Kong. Its ATV Home Channel is also available in North America and mainland China. Thomson had previously equipped ATV with its NetProcessor 9030 multiplexers and Jade EPG servers. Ideal System, Thomson’s local distributor, installed the ViBE EM1000s, which will be on air in the coming weeks. Thomson Video Networks systems for terrestrial broadcasters provide a complete solution for a comprehensive channel lineup, even when bandwidth is constrained.
