STM Group… Bursting With Throughput (SATCOM)

[SatNews] For addressing nexgen requirements in high-performance satellite networks, STM Group has a breakthrough technology announcement.

The company revealed its SatLink 2000 VSAT Indoor Unit (IDU) that supports Internet Protocol (IP) throughput up to 30 Mbps as well as operates on DVB-S2 carriers at information rates over 160 Mbps. The compact, lightweight SatLink 2000 is suitable for interactive data, voice over IP, and IP video conferencing applications in the government and large corporate markets. It is also cost-effective for small business applications and premium residential services for Internet access, high-definition voice, and IPTV. The SatLink 2000 has been certified by SatLabs as DVB-RCS compliant to the latest version of the standard. It provides burst-mode MF-TDMA for return link communications at up to 5 Mega symbols per second. The use of Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) is fully supported on the DVB-S2 forward link and integrated with SatLink QoS to boost average network efficiency by 150 percent or more, while protecting high-priority or delay sensitive applications during rain fades. Built-in value-added features include: TCP and web acceleration; IP QoS, routing and header compression; plus protocol support for NAT, IGMP, VLANs, VPNs, DHCP Server, and DNS caching. For user traffic security, the design supports AES-256 encryption at Layer-2.

The future-proof design of the SatLink 2000 will also deliver the next generation of DVB-RCS standards currently being finalized in the DVB Working Group. This allows for ACM “per-burst” with a 16-state Turbo Code FEC and many other advanced features. These innovations increase return link spectrum efficiency and IP throughput by up to 175 percent vs. the TDMA architectures common to most VSAT networks today.
