Colem-Spice announced the Company’s Managing Director, Martin Coleman, has been named Chairman of the SUIRG Video Committee to focus on the identification, recommendations, and global acceptance of Carrier Identification specifications. SUIRG is a global industry organization dedicated to combating the increasing and costly problem of satellite radio frequency interference.
Colem-Spice has been involved with the Satellite Users Interference Reduction Group (SUIRG) for a number of years. In 2006, Coleman established the ground rules for adding Carrier ID to digital video carriers. He has worked with SUIRG on the Carrier ID specification, finalized in December 2009, and now ratified by the World Broadcasting Union – International Satellite Operations Group (WBU-ISOG). In his new role, Coleman aims to move the industry forward in reducing interference, but he also has other plans for the future of the committee.
With encoder manufacturers now prepared to make Carrier ID available on all Video Encoders, the next and immediate push is to extend this to all Multiplexed carrier transmissions. Furthermore, the latest SNG and FlyAway technology from Colem-Spice allows self-monitoring of space segment directly from any SNG system. The systems are automated to ensure proper transmission schedules are met and interference is avoided. Coleman will be speaking on two key interference panels at Satellite 2010 in Washington, D.C.: the Satellite Interference: Increasing in Frequency session on Tuesday, March 16th at 4:30 pm, and the Global Interference Mitigation Initiative: Progress, Plans and Prospects forum on Thursday the 18th of March. There is no charge to attend the latter all-day forum, co-hosted by SUIRG and GVF.
