You may well recall that sometime during the evening of June 16th to the 17th, a “technical incident” occurred to the Eutelsat’s W5 satellite’s power generation subsystem. A technical investigation into this technical problem was conducted by Eutelsat and Thales Alenia Space, the W5’s manufacturer. The good news is that the satellite’s power performances is now stablized. The bad news is that the investigation has revealed there is no possibility of recovering use of the four transponders that were turned off as a result of the technical incident. This means the operational capacity of the W5 satellite is now 20 transponders.
