- The European Space Agency (ESA) and World Telecom Labs (WTL) are going to joint collaborate on the development of voice over Internet technology via satellite networks. WTL manufactures VoIP hardware and their network optimization protocol (NOP) will be adapted for use over satellite systems such as VSAT. Their NOP is currently used to lower bandwidth allocations over terrestrial phone nets. This would be an ideal technology for VoIP markets in developing nations as well as for low-cost sat use by telecom operators. They will both fund the project.
