The Sirius 4 satellite has successfully reached its final, geostationary orbit situated 22, 236 miles above Earth. This was accomplished last Saturday. The comsat was built by Lockheed Martin for SES Sirius, the Swedish-based communications provider. Customers in Europe, Africa and the Baltic/Nordic regions will be provided with direct-to-home (DTH) television and other services. The Sirius 4 weighs 9, 667 pounds and carries 53 active Ku-band transponders, two active Ka-band transponders and has a 15-year service lifetime. International Launch Services (ILS) managed the satellite’s launch. The managing director of SES Sirius, Hakan Sjodin, offered a statement, “We are very proud and satisfied that the Sirius 4 missions has been a success. Sirius 4 will benefit our customers and extend our coverage and service in Eastern Europe.”
