digiGO™—The World Of Digital Content & Delivery

October 15, 2007

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will present a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award to Dielectric Communications. The awards ceremony will be held during the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 7th, 2008. The impressive award recognizes Dielectric’s accomplishments in designing ATSC broadcast transmission system RF filters. (The ATSC committee is responsible for developing and establishing Digital-HDTV Standards, as well as 18 formats of Digital TV.) The company’s ATSC transmission filter support two distinct functions… they eliminate spurious emissions that the transmitter may generate outside of the station’s allotted channel of operation, ensuring the transmission system remains FCC compliant. Plus, the filters eliminate interference from neighboring stations by absorbing out-of-band emissions and preventing the generation of intermodulation products. EchoStar Communications Corporation [NASDAQ:DISH] and its DISH Network satellite TV service have selected Harris Corporation’s OSi-Traffic broadcast inventory management and accounting solution to manage EchoStar’s ad sales commercial insertions and billing related to its interactive mosaic, DishHOME, Channel 100. Available on DISH Network satellite TV service, the DishHOME Mosaic was launched in August 2005. The DishHOME Mosaic consists of six on-screen video windows. Each window displays what’s playing on a variety of channels, right at that moment. The windows can be refreshed regularly with six new programming offerings. During transition breaks between programming changes, commercials play on all six windows. Additional advertising can be displayed on DishHOME in the upper-right corner of the screen in the form of a video banner. The bottom portion of the screen shows a scrolling ticker that can also contain promotional or advertising information. OSi-Traffic™ is part of the Harris Broadcast Communications ONE initiative to deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain—Cincinnati, Ohio

Just named to the critical position of CFO for GlobeCast America is Ed Tepper, an Emmy award winner who will oversee the financial management of the company’s American arm. Tepper brings more than 21 years of hands-on executive and board-level experience to the company and he’ll be based in the firm’s New York offices. He has been involved in the launch and success of many companies, including Sportvision that brought the Emmy-award winning “Yellow Line” technology to live football telecasts. He also served in key leadership roles on executive management teams for a number of other companies, including Mongo Media, Greenview Ventures, Sterling Ventures and USCO/INC. GlobeCast is a subsidiary of France Telecom and is a content management and delivery company providing broadcast services on five continents and they operate proprietary leases on more than 30 satellites around the word on 10 satellite systems—New York, New York

MEASAT ASTRO NDS Logos

Measat Broadcast Network Systems, owner and operator of Malaysian pay-TV service Astro, and NDS Group plc have signed contracts for the licensing and deployment of the VideoGuard conditional access system (VideoGuard CAS) for its Direct-to-Home Pay-TV services. The company plans to progressively migrate its satellite Pay-TV services to the VideoGuard CAS. Astro deployed Mediahighway middleware (owned by NDS) in 1999 as its operating system for their set top boxes. The use of VideoGuard CAS will provide Astro with a single and consolidated CAS/middleware provider resulting in enhanced ability to leverage functionality between the two technologies, cost efficiencies and speed to market. Astro is Malaysia’s leading multimedia broadcaster and producer of Malay, Chinese, Indian and English language programming content and owns and operates the only direct-to-home satellite TV service with access to some 10 million viewers in over 2 million homes, representing 38 percent of TV homes in Malaysia, making it the one of the largest multi-channel TV businesses in Asia—Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The Best of Innovation awards are given to outstanding products within the CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards, which is quite an accomplishment for those receiving this accolade. This is the delightful situation SE2 Labs now finds themselves, as their ITC One (Integrated Theater Console) has been selected by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) as the Best of Innovations 2008 winner in the Integrated Home Systems category. This was officially announced on November 13th at the 2007 International CES Press Preview in New York City. The ITC One is a personalized, fully-integrated, one-box home entertainment solution. With each ITC One, custom installers or end users design a personalized system from the SE2 Labs website. Each ITC One is then built and shipped within two weeks. A number of components can be selected and included, ranging from a Microsoft X-Box to Hi-Def TiVo, a high-end Digital Surround Processor and Video Processor, Apple Video iPod with Dock, Transparent Cabling and Cable Harness, Anti-Noise and Vibration System and more (see the company’s website at www. se2labs.com for the full list). All of the electronics are slimmed down into a small console measuring 18-inches wide by 21-inches high by 20-inches deep. Plug ‘n Play to the ultimate as far as installation is concerned.
