Headquarters Air Force Space Command was the location for an assemblage of some 70 senior leaders and experts from across the Services, joint agencies and Intelligence Community to discuss what lays ahead for Operationally Responsive Space (ORS). A clearly defined joint process for identifying and developing ORS requirements and capabilities was the objective of the conference. How are they integrated and deconflicted? What means are available to ensure common standards are used for the creation and processes of such capabilities? The ORS concept is to provide joint force commanders space and space-related capabilities in orbit, and quickly to meet urgent operational needs.
The atmosphere throughout the meeting was collaborative and cooperative, ending with a common view of the need for the ORS community to establish a requirements and solutions process. The Army will host the next meeting, which is scheduled for mid-to-late September. Key players will try out the proposed ORS process using a U.S. Strategic Command requirement—Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado
