Moving into the American market is Arqiva as the company has acquired British Telecom’s (BT) Satellite Broadcast Services. The new operation includes long-term customer contracts, operations and personnel located in the USA. With this acquisition, Arqiva now has an inventory of more than 100 uplinks at ten international satellite teleports. They provide access to more than 60 worldwide satellites. This equates to the company’s resources reaching more than 90 percent of the global population!
The company was awarded the World Teleport Operator of the Year award in 2007 by the World Teleport Association and it was part of a broader purchase of BT Satellite Broadcast Services in Europe for $50 million (25 million pounds sterling), announced earlier this year in April. From full-time video and data to occasional-use satellite services, Arqiva offers a full array of services for broadcasters in the US via two teleports. One is located in Washington, DC and the other in Los Angeles, California. Each teleport offers a broad range of satellite connectivity options and a dedicated fiber link between the U.S. and the United Kingdom—Washington DC
