SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA: August 13, 2007 — Satnews Daily — The competition for a potential 15-year, $600 million U.S. Army Modernization of Enterprise Terminals (MET) program is heating up, and Harris Corporation is definitely planning on being in the picture. The company has added General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies to the team in hopes of providing the next generation of global military satellite communications terminals. The year 2010 is when the first terminal should be fielded, with program completion by 2020.
The MET program is going to replace as many as 80 older AN/GSC-52, GSC-39, FSC-78 and other strategic satellite communications terminal around the world with the new X- and Ka-band terminals. These terminals will work with the new Wideband Global Satellite constellation as well as legacy satellite systems. Ranging in size from a transportable 6-meter antenna to a fixed, 11-meter antenna, many of these terminals will be used by the Missile Defense Agency and will offer full electromagnetic pulse detection.
Harris is acting as the prime contractor. General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies is pumping in their successful X- and Ka-band satellite communications product experience. The legacy satellite compatibility wil include Defense Satellite Communications System, XTRA and the aforementioned Wideband Global Satellite Systems. The terminals will also support Teleport and Standardized Tactical Entry Point locations.
