Announced from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the unified offering enables enterprise and government operators to deploy real-time artificial intelligence and edge computing workloads across remote terrestrial and maritime environments.
Technical Architecture and Private Network Interconnect
The integrated solution pairs multi-constellation satellite connectivity with transportable edge compute infrastructure. Key technical elements include:
- Transport Layer: Multi-LEO, 5G/LTE, and high-throughput satellite (HTS) connectivity, engineered for high-availability field operations.
- Modular Data Centers: Armada-engineered modular edge enclosures deployable in weeks, bypassing the multi-year construction cycles of traditional facilities.
- Sovereign Data Routing: Orbius’s Private Network Interconnect (PNI) routes traffic over private Layer 2 paths terminating directly at regional data centers rather than traversing the public internet.
Executing AI inference and data processing directly on localized hardware nodes eliminates the latency overhead of backhauling high-volume sensor telemetry to centralized cloud servers.
Service Heritage and Strategic Market Context
The rollout expands Orbius’s StarEDGE connectivity portfolio, building upon the company’s deployment of the StarEdge Horizon satellite service on AWS Marketplace to deliver private Layer 2 cloud interconnects over low Earth orbit networks.
The partnership addresses expanding demand for distributed processing, with global edge computing expenditures projected to surpass $317 billion by 2031.
