On September 1, 2026, Swedish satellite systems manufacturer GomSpace announced that Italian space logistics provider D-Orbit selected GomSpace to supply flight power systems for upcoming orbital transportation missions. Valued at 6.3 million Swedish kronor (MSEK), the contract covers power electronics hardware integrated across D-Orbit’s ION Satellite Carrier platforms scheduled for launch throughout 2026 and 2027.

Power System Specifications and Platform Architecture
The order expands a decade-long component supply relationship between the two European aerospace companies. Under the terms of the agreement, GomSpace will supply standardized power management and distribution systems engineered to support flight-critical operations across multi-orbit campaigns. The selected power architectures are optimized for scalable deployment aboard D-Orbit’s ION Satellite Carrier orbital transfer vehicles (OTVs).
D-Orbit utilizes its ION Satellite Carrier to perform precise multi-orbit satellite deployments, hosted payload operations, and on-orbit servicing missions. Previous ION Carrier missions have facilitated technology demonstrations, including Ensign-Bickford’s payload release ring testing and the deployment of the IAC ALISIO-1 Earth observation satellite. The integrated GomSpace power units regulate onboard energy storage, manage solar array input channels, and distribute conditioned power to payload interfaces and terminal propulsion systems during orbital maneuvering.
