January 6, 2026 — CACI International Inc (NYSE: CACI) has been awarded a five-year task order valued at up to $212 million to modernize the network infrastructure of the U.S. Space Force. The contract, announced on December 31, 2025, tasks CACI with delivering a software-defined, enterprise-level overhaul of the service’s base area networks (BAN) to support high-security operations in contested domains.

CACI will implement software-defined networking to unify fragmented legacy systems across 14 Space Force installations, enabling high-bandwidth connectivity across all security classifications.
Modernizing “America’s Guardians”
The work will be performed under the United States Air Force Base Infrastructure Modernization (USAF BIM) contract vehicle. CACI is charged with transforming and unifying legacy network infrastructures across 14 Space Force installations. These upgrades are designed to replace aging, fragmented systems with a scalable architecture that provides reliable connectivity for both classified and unclassified data.
Key technical objectives of the overhaul include:
- Software-Defined Networking (SDN): Implementing programmable infrastructure that can be reconfigured via code rather than physical hardware updates.
- Zero Trust Architecture: Strengthening security protocols to ensure continuous verification of every user and device on the network.
- Cloud Enablement: Providing the high-bandwidth backbone necessary for the Space Force to leverage advanced cloud-based mission applications.
- Enhanced Visibility: Improving real-time sustainment and monitoring capabilities across all facilities.
Executive Perspective
“CACI stands with America’s Guardians, delivering insights and keeping pace with evolving threats to ensure the Space Force has connectivity, across all classifications, when they need it most,” said John Mengucci, CACI President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are accelerating innovation and enabling success by delivering a modern infrastructure that supports high-bandwidth, high-security operations in a contested domain“.
Strategic Context
This win adds significant momentum to CACI’s growing space portfolio, representing approximately 2.4% of the company’s annual revenue. The announcement follows CACI’s planned $2.6 billion acquisition of ARKA Group, which is expected to deepen the company’s expertise in space-based sensing and optics later this year.
As the Space Force continues to mature as a military branch, this $212 million “wake-up call” highlights a broader defense trend: resilient digital infrastructure is now considered just as critical to space superiority as the satellites and rockets themselves.
