The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) and satellite communications specialist, Newtec, today announced the launch of an industry survey to find out what the industry really thinks when it comes to satellite interference and Carrier ID.
The survey looks at how often respondents suffer from interference, as well as exploring the compelling reasons to implement Carrier ID and, crucially, any issues that may deter Carrier ID implementation. The survey will also look at whether the industry feels other reasons for the move take precedence, such as the upcoming sports events, or having experienced the effects of interference.
The survey follows the launch of a number of significant resolutions by the WBU-ISOG, relating to the implementation timeframes of Carrier ID, including the requirement that all satellite operators, by no later than 1st January 2015, start the transition to use Carrier ID that meets WBU-ISOG NIT or the ETSI standard for all SNG, DSNG and any other new uplink transmission services.
“We have spent the last couple of years discussing Carrier ID at great length and urging the entire industry to get on board in order to reduce satellite interference,” commented Martin Coleman, Executive Director, IRG. “In that time, we have made a great deal of headway in driving towards its implementation, but there is still a way to go. This survey gives the industry a chance to voice its opinion on Carrier ID, the timescales, and the challenges to be overcome.”

Survey respondents will receive a Carrier ID FAQ produced by the Radio Frequency Interference – End Users Initiative (RFI-EUI), as well as having priority attendance at the dedicated session to present the findings at IBC2013.
